Army Foils Terror Attack In Jammu`s Rajouri, 1 Terrorist Killed, Soldier Hurt In Gunfight
After the terror attack in Jammu division`s Rajouri, a massive search operation was launched by the security forces which is now underway.
Army troops successfully repelled a terrorist assault on a security post and the residence of a Village Defence Guard (VDG) in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district early Monday morning, officials reported. A cordon and search operation was initiated to locate the assailants, leading to a gunfight. Sources report that one terrorist was killed, and both a soldier and a civilian, related to the VDG whose home was targeted, were injured.
"Terrorists struck the residence of a VDC member at Gunda, Rajouri at 03:10 hours. An adjacent Army unit responded, and a firefight broke out," stated the White Knight Corps. "Operations are ongoing," it continued.
The Indian Army, acting on intelligence that anticipated a threat to a VDG in the remote Rajouri-Reasi area, deployed tactical teams that quickly intervened, preventing harm to the VDC member and his family, the Corps reported.
Operations are ongoing, and the firefight continues, according to the Corps. Officials stated that the terrorists attacked the home of the VDG and ex-serviceman Parshottam Kumar, also a Shourya Chakra recipient, in the Gundha area of Khawas tehsil.
After the terrorists hurled a grenade, security forces retaliated, which led to the assailants targeting a newly established Army picket around 4 am, sparking an exchange of fire, they reported. The troops thwarted the attack on the Army post, and a subsequent cordon and search operation by the security forces led to another gunfight, they added.
"A significant terror attack on an Army picket in a remote Rajouri village was averted. The firing is ongoing, and the operation is in progress," said an Army spokesperson. The assault has instilled fear among locals due to the potential presence of terrorists in the region.
"We are terrified by this attack, which occurred after several years of peace in the area. The firing began around 3 am and continued," expressed a local woman.
Another villager mentioned that it is time to rearm VDGs with modern weapon and communication technology to take on the terrorists operating in the hills of Jammu.
Today's terror attack is the 14th incident in Jammu region in which 10 security personnel including two officers, 9 pilgrims lost their lives and 58 others were injured. Five terrorists were neutralised during the period.
