New Delhi: A multi-storey building of the Madhya Pradesh state secretariat caught fire on the third floor on Saturday morning, news agency PTI quoted official as saying. They said that no one was hurt in the incident. Around 9.30 am, some sanitation workers spotted smoke at the Vallabh Bhawan - the official name of the secretariat building - and called the fire brigade. Bhopal Municipal Corporation’s Fire Officer Rameshwar Neel told PTI, “The firefighters have managed to contain the fire and are still working on it. The third floor, where the documents are stored, is now only emitting smoke.”

He said that 15 to 20 fire tenders were deployed for the operation. PTI sources said that the sanitation workers, who were near the gate number 5 and 6 of the secretariat complex, saw the smoke and alerted the authorities.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed his worry over the incident and said, “I have learned that a fire erupted on the third floor of the old building of Vallabh Bhavan. I instructed the CS to oversee it and gather detailed information on the incident. I have also been informed that the fire is under control now.” He added, “We have given directions to prevent any such incident from happening again…I hope that no such incident happens again…” The visuals show smoke rising from the building.
