With the heat and humidity rising across India, the weather department has predicted relief from scorching heat in some parts of the country. The Indian Met Department has predicted dust storms and heavy rains for some states while maintaining that the average temperature is likely to go up by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the coming days. While people in hilly areas may have some respite from the scorching heat, there is no relief on cards for others. IMD said that the southwest monsoon is very likely to advance into some parts of the South Bay of Bengal, South Andaman Sea and Nicobar Island during the next 48 hours. It said that a cyclonic circulation lies over Punjab and adjoining central Pakistan, another over south Pakistan and adjoining southwest Rajasthan and another over East Uttar Pradesh in lower tropospheric levels. "A fresh Western Disturbance is likely to cause scattered to fairly widespread rainfall/thunderstorm over northwest India during 23rd to 25th May," said the Met department.

The weather department said that light/moderate widespread rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds very likely to continue over Northeast India during next 2 days while heavy rainfall at isolated places over Assam & Meghalaya during 19 th to 23 rd and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura on 19th May, 2023. IMD had earlier predicted light/moderate widespread rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds very likely to continue over Northeast India during the next 5 days with heavy rainfall at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya from 19th to 22nd and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. 


Eastern India Weather Update


"Light/moderate isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds very likely over 2 most part of the region during next 5 days. Heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on 19 th, 20th & 23rd May, 2023. Thundersquall (speed 50-60 kmph) with lightning very likely at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha on 19th May," said the IMD. 


Northwest India Weather Update


The weather department also said that light/moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds very likely over Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan on 22nd & 23rd May and Western Himalayan Region on 23rd May, 2023. It said that duststorm/dust raising winds very likely in isolated pockets over Rajasthan on 22nd & 23rd May, 2023. "Under the influence of a fresh Western Disturbance, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall/thunderstorm likely over northwest India mainly during 23rd to 25th and decrease thereafter," said the weather department.


 


Central India Weather Update


The Met department predicted light rainfall with thunderstorms/ lightning/gutsy winds over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh on 22nd May. "Light/moderate isolated light rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds (speed 40-50 kmph) over Chhattisgarh during next 5 days; over Vidarbha on 22nd & 23rd May, 2023," it said.


South India Weather Update


The IMD said in a statement that light/moderate isolated light rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds very likely over most parts of the south India during the next 5 days.


The weather department said that maximum temperatures were in the range of 38-42 degrees Celsius over parts of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Central and adjoining Eastern India and North peninsular India. "Maximum temperatures are very likely to rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius over Maharashtra and many parts of northwest and central India during the next 5 days. Heatwave conditions in isolated pockets very likely over south Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan and north Madhya Pradesh during 20th and 22nd May," it said.
