Yogi government cancels UP Board Class 12 exams

The decision to cancel Class 12 Board exams comes after a meeting was chaired by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

New Delhi: The state government on Thursday (June 3) cancelled Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP) Class 12 board exams in view of the COVID-19 situation. 

The decision comes after a meeting was chaired by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in this regard. The meeting was attended by Deputy CM Dinesh Sharma and officials of the Education Department at Lok Bhawan in Lucknow. 

The committee prepared by the Board of Education presented a report to the Chief Minister, in which after the cancellation of the examination, other options were suggested for the candidates.

Over 26 lakh (26,09,501) students have registered for the UP Board Class 12 exams. Earlier, UP Board had called off high school or Class 10 exams in view of the raging coronavirus pandemic. 

On Tuesday, in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it was decided to cancel the Class 12 examinations conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Taking the cue, CISCE had also decided to cancel Class 12 board exams. 

Several states including Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Goa, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat have cancelled Class 12 board exams. Other states like West Bengal, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh are yet to take a decision on the matter. While Assam government is likely to conduct Class 10 and Class 12 board exams in the state when conditions are conducive.
