Srinagar: Indian Army Chief Bipin Rawat on Tuesday reviewed the overall security in the Kashmir Valley in the aftermath of Monday's terror attack on Amarnath pilgrims in the state's Anantnag district, a defence statement said.

It said that General Rawat, who arrived here on Tuesday, was briefed by the Srinagar-headquartered Chinar Corps Commander on the prevailing security situation in the Valley.

"Later, the Army Chief also chaired a security review meeting which was attended by the Chinar Corps Commander, Chief Secretary and DGP, J&K among others.

"Speaking to the dignitaries, the COAS condemned the dastardly act of terror against innocent Amarnath pilgrims, and indicated that the security forces will counter this menace with greater resolve," it said.

The Army chief also called on Governor NN Vohra and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufi to discuss the prevailing situation, it said.

"The Army Chief exhorted the commanders and troops to keep up the pressure on the terrorists as had been witnessed in recent successful operations in the Valley.

"He complimented the troops for the excellent operations along the Line of Control, wherein several infiltration attempts were foiled," it added.
