New Delhi: More than 13,000 Jammu and Kashmir students have benefitted from the Prime Minister's Special Scholarship since 2011, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Thursday.
A total of 2,240 were granted the scholarship during 2016-17 session. A total of 1,402 and 1,680 scholarships were granted during 2015-16 and 2014-15, respectively, Minister of State (HRD) Mahendra Nath Pandey said in a written reply.
The scheme which is being offered since 2011 has benefitted 13,014 students so far in the state.
"As a result of various initiatives, including creation of 10 supernumerary quota in Engineering Colleges, more number of students are taking admission in professional courses," Pandey said.
The scheme seeks to provide 5,000 fresh scholarships every year, out of which 4,500 are provisioned for General and 250 each for engineering and medical studies.
