Pakistan refuses to take Abu Dujana's body; LeT militant likely to be buried in Jammu and Kashmir's Uri

The Jammu and Kashmir Police had earlier asked the Union Home Ministry to approach the Pakistan High Commission to take the body of LeT commander Abu Dujana.

New Delhi/Srinagar: Pakistan on Wednesday refused to claim the body of Abu Dujana, the Lashkar-e-Toiba militant gunned down in south Kashmir on Tuesday.

A report said that Dujana could now be buried at Uri in Jammu and Kashmir.

The J&K Police had earlier asked the Union Home Ministry to approach the Pakistan High Commission to take the body of the LeT commander.

In an exclusive conversation with Zee Media, Inspector General of Police (Kashmir range) Munir Khan had this morning said that police headquarters would approach the Union Home Ministry to take up the matter with the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.

On Tuesday, Khan had told reporters that if Pakistan does not claim Dujana's body, “we will give him a proper burial”. He had also said that the authorities wished Dujana's parents should see their son before burial and for that reason.

Police had yesterday refused to hand over Dujana's body to the civilians for burial. The senior police officer said, "there was no reason to hand over the body of somebody to locals who did not belong to the Kashmir Valley".

Dujana, believed to be in his late 20s, was killed yesterday in a well-planned operation by a joint team of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army and CRPF in Pulwama district of south Kashmir.

The inmates of the house where he was holed up had told police that he claimed to be from Karachi.
