Jayalalithaa's relatives perform her last rites again, as per Hindu rituals

The last rites were performed by Jayalalithaa's family, relatives and cousin brothers at Paschima Vahini on the bank of Cauvery River.

Srirangapatnam: The relatives of late Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa performed her last rites on Tuesday, this time as per Hindu rituals.

Notably, the body of Jayalalithaa, who died in Chennai on December 05 after a 74-day battle for life, was cremated on December 6 evening with full state honours near her mentor MG Ramachandran's (MGR) memorial at Marina Beach. At that time, Jayalalithaa`s last rites were performed by her confidante Sasikala Natarajan.

The last rites were performed by Jayalalithaa's family, relatives and cousin brothers Ranganath Aiyengar and Ramanuj Aiyengar at Paschima Vahini on the bank of Cauvery River in the holy town of Srirangapatna on Tuesday.

As per a The Times of India report, Jayalalithaa’s step-brother Varadaraju cast doubt on the AIADMK's decision to bury Jayalalithaa despite the fact that she had been a believer, unlike other Dravidian leaders.

Her last rites involved cremation of a doll supposed to be her replica.

Jayalalithaa was born on February 24, 1948, to Jayaram and Vedavalli in a Tamil Brahmin (Iyengar) family at Melukote, Pandavapura taluka, Mandya district, then in Mysore State (now Karnataka).
