Bengaluru: Elected representatives and government employees may soon have to send their children to government schools.

The Kannada Development Authority (KDA) has recommended to the Karnataka government to make it mandatory for lawmakers and officials to send their children to government schools in order to improve the quality of education in government schools.

The report was released by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

The KDA has asked as to why would officials would be interested in improving government schools when they send their children to private schools.

The panel has also suggested the introduction of English lessons from standard one in order to counter the popularity of private English medium schools.

The report says that basic facilities like toilets, drinking water, library and playgrounds exist only on paper for many schools.

At the same time, as per thenewsminute.com, it also highlights the need to hire the stipulated number of teachers in government schools for all the subjects.

Further, one of the recommendations is the introduction of kindergarten classes to be at par with private institutions.

Moreover, the KDA has recommended that the government should not reimburse private schools for admitting students under the RTE quota.

Chairman SG Siddaramaiah, litterateur Chandrashekhar Patil and education experts like VP Niranjanaradhya were part of the committee.
