Serial killer 'Cyanide' Mallika, lodged next to Sasikala's cell, shifted out of Bengaluru jail

A convicted serial killer housed next to the cell of VK Sasikala in Bengaluru jail has been shifted out.

Bengaluru: A convicted serial killer housed next to the cell of VK Sasikala in Bengaluru jail has been shifted to Hindalga prison in Belagavi, north Karnataka.

As per a report in The Times of India, news of Sasikala being put up in a cell next to that of 'cyanide killer' Mallika or 52-year old KD Kempamma in the women's barracks had made headlines.

There have been allegations that the AIADMK leader's life was under threat.

Kempamma is supposedly country's first woman serial killer. She has been accused of killing six women.

Allegedly, she identified rich women frequenting temples in and around Bengaluru and befriended them.

Later, she killed them using cyanide and stole their jewellery.

'Cyanide' Mallika was arrested in 2008.

The Daily quoted jail sources as saying that Mallika was friendly and cordial with Sasikala. But the authorities may have been uneasy about it.

"In fact, she would not allow Sasikala to stand in queue during meal time. She used to bring the food for her," TOI quoted a source as saying.

Mallika's shifting early this week is said to have been a hush-hush affair and she was not informed about it by officials.

"They just asked Mallika to pack up her belongings and get ready to shift to another cell," a source said.

On the other hand, Sasikala's lawyers have been making efforts to get her shifted to a jail in Tamil Nadu.

Sasikala was on February 15 sent to jail after she surrendered before a trial court in Bengaluru, a day after the Supreme Court had restored her conviction in the two-decades-old disproportionate assets case.

She will be in jail for three years and about 11 months out of the four years sentence awarded by the trial court.

She had earlier spent 21 days in Parappana Agrahara jail after conviction by the trial court in September 2014.
