Thiruvananthapuram: An unusual case of alleged conversion and marriage at the behest of the Islamic State has come to the fore.

The Kerala High Court declared the wedding of a Hindu woman with a Muslim man as void after the bride's father raised Islamic State angle, according to a report in Indian Express.

The Kerala High Court on Wednesday nullified marriage of a Hindu woman who had converted to Islam.

The court's order came after Akhila’s father, K M Ashokan, of Vaikom in Kottayam district, filed a petition before the court.

Akhila had become Hadia after converting to Islam. She married Shefin Jahan on December 19 last year.

Akhila's father, who was petitioner in the case, had alleged that his daughter was converted to Islam as a strategy to recruit her for the Islamic State.

Reportedly, of the missing Kerala youths believed to have joined the IS, a few were those who recently embraced Islam.

“Marriage is the most important decision in life; can only be taken with the active involvement of her parents,’’ the court said.

The court granted Ashokan the custody of his daughter.

The court directed Kottayam district police superintendent to give protection to Akhila and her father.
