Kochi: A 12-year-old boy from Kerala is perhaps India's youngest father.
According to The Hindu, the boy impregnated a 16-year-old and became the father of a baby girl a few months ago.
The young mother gave birth at a hospital in Ernakulam.
Since both the father and the mother are minors, their personal details cannot be divulged according to the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The DNA profiles of both the baby and the father has confirmed the paternity of the child this week.
According to The New Indian Express, the girl and the boy are relatives.
As per Dr PK Jabbar, the professor and head of the Endocrinology Department of the Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, the boy could have a medical condition called “precocious puberty”, in which a child attains puberty at an earlier age.
"The DNA profiling was conducted at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, where medical experts generated DNA profiles from the blood samples of the father and the baby. The report confirmed that the boy was the baby girl’s father," The New Indian Express quoted Jayakrishnan S, Circle Inspector, Kalamassery, as saying.
Police filed a case against the boy under the POCSO Act. “The case had opened up a legal conundrum as both the victim and the perpetrator were minors,” said The Hindu.
