The 58-yr-old was allegedly attacked by CPM workers on at a temple festival near Kadakkal.
Kannur district is considered Kerala's most volatile due to the violent rivalry between the CPI-M and the BJP/RSS.
At least four BJP workers were brutally murdered in the Assembly constituency of Pinarayi Vijayan after he took over as Chief Minister in May last year.
