Kolkata man preserves mother's body for 2 years, withdraws her pension using fingerprints

Kolkata: Police have arrested a man for allegedly preserving his mother's dead body in a refrigerator for close to two years and using her fingerprints to claim pension on her behalf. The arrest was made from the residence of the man in Behala where the body was discovered in a refrigerator.

The police detained the woman’s son and husband for interrogation. The incident happened at 25 SN Chatterjee Road.

According to DNA, the woman, Bina Majumder, was a former government employee and had died in 2015. The report quoted neighbours as saying that she was admitted to a hospitalised in 2015 where she died. Her son, Subhabrata Majumder – a meritorious Leather Technology student, brought the body back home but never performed her last rites.

DNA report further said that as Subhabrata was a student of leather technology, he had a fair idea of how to preserve leather. He used special chemicals to prevent the body from getting rotten. Different chemicals were recovered by the police from their residence.

The accused had even arranged a life certificate and with the help of it, he withdrew Rs 50,000 per month pension, which her mother was supposed to be receiving.

According to police, another freezer, big enough to fit a body, was recovered from Subhabrata’s residence. The cops are probing and making attempts to find out if the second one was meant to store his father’s body after his death.
