It is a historic moment in international Test cricket as day/night is being tried for the first time.

  • Australia: Overs 22 | Score 54/2 (Smith 24*, Voges 9*)

    Smith caresses Boult for a boundary in the 21st over. Southee bowls the final over and ends the day with four byes. Aussies will feel hugely satisfied with the day's proceedings. Smith has led from the front and is batting well under lights against the pink ball. The Kiwis will hope to come back fresh tomorrow and get some early wickets in the first session.

    Santner has been introduced and he starts off well with a decent line and length. Bracewell fires a maiden in before Smith hits another four. Santner was loose and gave enough time to Smith who picked the gap through midwicket. Bracewell sees two runs come from his over with Voges eager to get singles. Boult replaces Santner as McCullum is looking for wickets.

    New Zealand start well as Boult gets the wicket of Warner in the fourth over. Warner chases a wide ball straight to third slip as Southee takes a smart catch. Smith comes in and in between hits two sublime boundaries. Bracewell then gets Burns whose lack of footwork ensures he pokes the ball to his stumps.

    New Zealand are dismissed for 202 runs. The last three wickets Watling, Southee and Bracewell went to Hazlewood and Siddle respectively. Australia will be very happy with their bowling performance.

    Lyon gets the wicket of Craig as the ball spins away past his outside edge to hit his stumps. Three overs go more as it is dinner time.

    Watling is very watchful against Mitchell Marsh who doesn't give anything away. Starc comes into bowl and Santner crashes a half-volley to the boundary. The next ball is angled into the left hander and it wasn't there to drive. The ball gets into Santner's pads and hits the stumps.

  • Over 45 | Score 138/5 (Santner 27*, Watling 12*)

    Santner and Watling are looking to re-build the New Zealand innings once again. Santner has been the pick of the duo as his boundary hitting skills is being put into full view. Lyon bowls and Santner slaps a loose ball past the point fielder for a boundary. Another shot is hit through point in the same over. Hazlewood and Mitchell Marsh bowl two decent looking overs. Hazlewood has mainly stayed on good length as Watling is watchful. Santner plays another good length ball off Hazlewood and the ball races past slips and gully for four. 

     

  • Over 39 | Score 120/5 (Santner 15*, Watling 7*)

    Santner hits a square drive to the boundary off Siddle to get off the mark. Siddle bowls a good over otherwise. In the next over Watling gets a four after chopping a low shot through gully. Siddle bowls a decent looking over with staying mainly on the off-side before Santner drives past mid-off for a boundary. Lyon is introduced back and Santner drives a lofted shot past mid-on for a couple. He then gets to his act and guides a ball to the boundary off Siddle. This was his third four off Siddle. 

  • Over 34 | Score 98/5 (Santner 0*, Watling 0*)

    Taylor hits Lyon for a four through mid-on after tea and gets off in style. Next over Siddle gets an edge of Taylor who wasn't in control but he gets it through gully for four. Lyon continues and Latham tries to cut only managing to nick it to the keeper. The extra bounce did Latham in. McCullum comes in. Next over Taylor departs to hand a blow to New Zealand after a loose drive sees him edge to the keeper. Siddle gets to 199 Test wickets. McCullum tries to slash Starc and a horrible shot sees him edge to Nevill. Kiwis have half their side back to the hut. Interestingly three quick wickets after tea will delight the Aussies.The pink ball is doing some tricks right now.

  • Over 28 | Score 80/2 (Latham 50*, Taylor 7*)

    Latham cuts Hazlewood over point for a four. In the next over he leans forward and drives through cover for another four. The left-hander has been batting really well. Taylor gets into the act next over and hits a square drive for four. The last over before the first session as Latham places the shot through backward point for four off Lyon. It is also his half century.

    Both Latham and Williamson have been batting very well after the early loss of Guptill. The pink ball is looking good as crowd enjoys the cricket at the Adelaide Oval. Latham strikes a beautiful looking shot off Lyon through covers in the end of 21st over. His application in the cover region has been pretty to watch. Latham then hits a short ball for four off Hazlewood to bring up the 50-run partnership. Starc bowls a perfect yorker that hits Williamson's pads for a LBW and he is dismissed for 22.

  • Over 14 | Score 43/1 (Latham 22*, Williamson 20*)

    New Zealand are trying to build a partnership here with Latham and Williamson. Hazlewood sees Williamson flick a lovely shot through midwicket for three runs. Latham then gets to the act and gets another three after hitting a shot past the ground. Hazlewood needs to mix it up more. Nathan Lyon is brought on by Smith and Latham skips out and lofts over mid-on for four. Hazlewood and Lyon bowl two good overs next before Siddle gets a maiden. Siddle bowls mostly on the off-side channel with the ball shaping well.

  • Over 9 | Score 29/1 (Latham 12*, Williamson 16*)

    Starc continues and Williamson gets a brace after playing the ball on the on side. Williamson who has been exposed to the new pink ball so early, flicks Starc square to the fence for the day's first boundary. He then defends the next three balls.Hazlewood continues to sparkle as he teases Latham who fishes outside off. Three decent deliveries follow before Latham gets a single. Siddle replaces Starc. Latham is right on the money and picks five runs from the first two balls.Williamson then gets another four in the next over through gully. Latham then sees a Siddle over out and it is a maiden.

     

  • Over 4 | Score 8/0 (Latham 4*, Williamson 1*)

    Another wonderful over from Starc. He is getting some nice pace and bounce. Latham gets another duo after driving a ball to covers. Hazlewood starts with a length ball and Guptill defends. The next ball there is some seam movement for Hazlewood and it hits Guptill on the pads and he is out. Hazlewood gets the first wicket with the pink ball.

    Mitchell Starc starts off with the proceedings for Australia in this historic day of Test cricket. He bowls right on middle and off stump and Guptill blocks. Two more dots before the Kiwi opener dabs the ball in front of backward point for one run. Latham too gets off the mark next and a decent first over is bowled by Starc. Hazlewood gets the new pink ball and bowls a decent over with line and length. Latham drives one to the cover and gets three runs.

Day 1 of the historic day-night Test between Australia and New Zealand being played at Adelaide comes to an end. It was a historic moment in Test cricket as day/night is was tried for the first time and it met with warm response from all sections of the world. The pink ball will be used and the sight was rather beautiful.


Australia bundled the Black Caps for 202 at the Adelaide, Oval. New Zealand then got two quick wickets as the Aussies ended the day on 54/2.
