Lucknow: Over 1.84 crore voters will on Monday exercise their franchise to decide the fate of 617 candidates in 51 constituencies as voting for the fifth phase of the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections began at 7:00 am today.

Earlier today, former Samajwadi Party MP Bhalchand Yadav was put under house arrest to ensure peaceful voting in Sant Kabir Nagar constituency.

Meanwhile, Delhi High Court today set aside trial court order granting custody parole to MLA Mukhtar Ansari for canvassing in Uttar Pradesh assembly polls. Justice Mukta Gupta allowed the Election Commission’s plea seeking cancellation of Ansari’s parole.
