Mumbai: At least 22 people died and around 30 were injured in a stampede at Elphinstone railway station's foot-over bridge in Mumbai on Friday.

The incident took place at around 10:30 am today morning. The injured were rushed to the nearby KEM hospital. 


The hospital has confirmed the number of death in the stampede.

What led to the mishap:


As per a report, the stampede took place over rumours that the foot-over bridge at the Elphinstone railway station has collapsed. The tragedy took place amid rain in the city when the foot-over bridge was heavily crowded.


Several eyewitnesses also claimed that a sudden rumour of a suspected electrical short-circuits sparked off a panic triggering a stampede.


An official confirmation on the cause of the incident remains awaited.
