The incident took place in Mumbai's Vile Parle area while the woman was returning from her relative's place. As she confronted and questioned his actions, the man, identified as Sanjay Babu, 18, said it happened by mistake.

"I was struck by the man’s audacity. The road was wide enough for him to have walked at a distance. There was nobody in the lane who could help. I started to drag him to a beat chowki (near the railway station)," the Times of India quoted the woman as saying.

Reportedly, the woman had to wait for nearly two and half hours to file a case against the accused. After reaching the nearby police station, the woman was asked to go to the police station, which was near the airport.

"I was told I’d have to go to the police station (near the domestic airport). But there was no female cop to accompany me, so we’d have to wait. The constable grilled the harasser about his family, place of work etc… Around 11.40pm, a police vehicle drove us down to the police station," she was further quoted as saying.

She had to narrate the incident thrice, once at the police station and twice at the beat chowki.

"I was asked irrelevant details about my brother, sister-in-law and even my nephew, including their names and ages. Police didn't know what section to book the offender under. One of the personnel said I'd have to go for a medical check-up, while another said it was not needed. They then referred to a book. The printer wasn’t working, so they had to step out to get a photocopy of the FIR," the 30-year-old said.

Strangely, a woman constable questioned her what she was doing out so late. To which, she replied that 10.45pm was not late and many women worked till night.

Meanwhile, the woman posted on Facebook of what was happening. Following which, one of her friend copied it to the Mumbai police's Twitter handle. "The web team checked on me. Things started moving swiftly after a senior officer arrived,” she concluded.

As reported by India.com, the accused was produced before a magistrate court on Tuesday and remanded to police custody.
