At least five persons were killed and seven injured on Thursday in two separate incidents when two buildings collapsed in Mumbai due to heavy rains.
In Malad area, at least one person was killed and five others injured on Thursday when a portion of a two-storey building collapsed. Several others were still stuck when last reports came in. Four fire engine, a rescue van and a 108 ambulance were rushed to the place where the L2 house collapsed.
The incident took place at around 2.30 pm at Malvani in the Abdul Hamid Marg of the area. On arrival at the scene of the incident, it was noticed that ground plus two-floor chawl had collapsed and thereby 5-6 persons were trapped.
Two people were rescued by the fire brigade, rendered first aid and sent to the hospital in a 108 ambulance. Two others were sent to the hospital in a private vehicle by the people before the arrival of the fire brigade. The injured are currently undergoing treatment.
The search and rescue operations of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and fire brigade were going on when last reports came in.
In another incident, at least four people were killed and two others critically injured when a portion of an old six-storey building collapsed in Fort area of Mumbai on Thursday. This is the second such incident in the day. Many people are feared trapped in the debris.
A corner portion of the Bhanushali building on Mint Road near Lucky house caved in around 4.43 pm. Eight fire engines, two rescue vehicles and ambulances were rushed to the spot. Several people have also been stranded in the side of the remaining portion of the affected building.
A team of the NDRF is helping the fire brigade in the search operation for the trapped persons. The deceased have been identified as--Jokhna Gupta (F/70), Kusum Gupta (F/45), Padumlal Gupta (M/60) and the identity of the fourth person is yet to be ascertained. Two people died before the arrival of the NDRF and two bodies were recovered by the NDRF and other agencies.

There are accidents that lead to the deaths of people. There are large scale buildings in Mumbai, which are prone to collapse in heavy rains.
