Sensex ends at record high of 32,575; Nifty at new peak of 10,114

  • The NSE Nifty rose by 37.55 points, or 0.37 percent, to close at a new high of 10,114.65 points, after touching a fresh intra-day high of 10,128.60 points.

    Similaly, the 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the BSE closed at a fresh high of 32,575.17 points -- up 60.23 points, or 0.19 per cent, from its previous close of 32,514.94 points.

  • The Sensex resumed higher, but then traded at 32,501.03 at 11.59 am, down 13.91 points, or 0.04 percent.

    However, the broader Nifty was trading slightly up by 1.75 points, or 0.02 percent, at 10,078.85.

    The big losers were HDFC 1.74 percent, along with ONGC, L&T, Asian Paints and SBI. The gainers include Dr Reddy's (2.70 percent), followed by Maruti, Wipro and M&M.

  • The rupee firmed up by 14 paise to 64.05 against the US today as exporters and banks intensified selling of the American currency.

     

  • Asian shares ticked up on Tuesday as investors looked to a barrage of economic data around the world to confirm recent signs the global economy is in fine fettle with inflation staying well contained.

    MSCI`s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up 0.5 percent, led by gains in financials and energy shares, while Tokyo`s Nikkei rose 0.2 percent.

    On Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.28 percent to end at a record high of 21,891.12 but the Nasdaq Composite pulled back 0.42 percent after recent rallies.

    MSCI ACWI, an index of the world`s 47 stock markets, logged its ninth consecutive month of gains in July, the longest winning spell since 2003-04, on the back of expectations of solid global economic growth.

  • Stock market opened in green on Tuesday amidst expectations of a monetary policy easing, coupled with hopes of healthy quarterly results. The benchmark BSE Sensex rallied over 100 points in opening trade on Tuesday while NSE Nifty touched new high of 10,101.05.

    The Nifty rallied 23.95 points, or 0.23 percent, to a new record high of 10,101.05 while the 30-share Sensex too gained 100.51 points, or 0.30 percent, to 32,615.45.
