New Delhi: Driven by healthy buying in metal, auto and financial stocks, markets ended in green on Monday.

The BSE Sensex jumped 164.27 points or 0.42 percent to close at 38,837.18 while the NSE Nifty edged higher by 45.25 points or 0.39% percent to 11,669.15.


The rally was driven by Tata Motors, Vedanta, Tata Steel, Maruti, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Industries, Larsen and Toubro, HCL Tech, Infosys, TCS and SBI, rising upto 7.37 percent. Bucking the trend, shares of IndusInd Bank, Mahindra and Mahindra, Axis Bank, PowerGrid, ONGC, HUL, BajajFinance, HDFC Bank, NTPC, CIL, and declined, falling by upto 2.22 percent.


Intra-day, the 30-stock index touched fresh record high, by crossing 39,000 level for the first time ever led by strong gains in metal and PSU stocks.


Meanwhile, all eyes are set on the RBI that will unveil its first bi-monthly monetary policy decision of this new fiscal on Thursday. Investors are hoping that the central bank will go for a rate cut in its monetary policy announcement.
