New Delhi: Markets opened in the positive territory on Monday with the Sensex reclaiming 36,000-level amid a firm trend in Asian markets.
The BSE Sensex jumped 321.41 points, or nearly 1 percent, at 34,637.04 in morning trade. The NSE Nifty was quoting 49.60 points, or 0.48 per cent,higher at 10,353.15.
Major gainers were Adani Ports, SBI, ITC Ltd, ICICI Bank, HDFC Ltd, SunPharma, Reliance Industries, IndusInd Bank Vedanta Ltd, Coal India, Hero MotoCorp, Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Tata Steel and Axis Bank, gaining up to 2.28 per cent.
Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth RS 618.26 crore, while DIIs offloaded shares to the tune of Rs 2.14 crore on Friday, as per provisional data.
MSCI`s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan turned on a dime to rise 1 percent. Japan`s Nikkei moved up 0.4 percent, after being down more than 1 percent earlier, while South Korean stocks were flat. Blue chips in Shanghai jumped 4.8 percent in the largest daily gain in three years, adding to Friday`s bounce on Beijing`s pledge of support for the economy and companies. That helped E-Mini futures for the S&P 500 recoup all their initial losses to push 0.2 percent higher, a Reuters report said.
