iPhone 8 launch on September 12: Expected price, specs, features and more

New Delhi: The gadget market is all set to launch Apple's next flagship device iPhone 8 on September 12. The news has gained momemtum as Apple has sent out invitations Thursday to a first-ever media event in the Steve Jobs Theater at its new "spaceship" campus in Silicon Valley.

Some reports say a new iPhone will include a high-quality, edge-to-edge screen with a notch in the top for an extra camera supporting 3D facial recognition. Some speculate that the new handset will have a glass backing that offers wireless charging. As per the conjectures, fans can also look forward to the revelation of new Apple TV model with 4K and HDR support and LTE-capable Apple Watch at the event.

Apple has declined to comment on speculation, even as reports say that as many as three new iPhone handsets may be launched, including a premium model priced around $1,000.

Price of iPhone 8 in India

The company hasn't made any comment on the Indian pricing yet, but it can be estimated that the phone would be more expensive than the previous edition (iPhone 7). The base model of iPhone 7 retailed at Rs 72,000 when it first became available in India. Conventionally, Apple starts shipping of iPhone models in two weeks in United States while Indians can avail them in about four to six weeks.

Features and Specifications of iPhone 8

• The new iPhone models are expected to house 3D sensors to enable facial recognition feature rather than featuring traditional Touch ID fingerprint scanner.
  
• Interestingly, Apple brought the fingerprint sensors in fashion and now it is venturing on the next trend for authentication on phones.
  
• As per the previous reports, iPhone models are likely to have bezel-less designs which would enable the company to fit larger displays in the same space as iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
  
• Current generation of iPhone editions sport LCD displays. Reportedly, at least one of the models will exhibit OLED screen display.
  
• The iPhone edition with OLED screen is rumored to be priced at $999 (in INR, Rs 63,900 approximately).
