New Delhi: Xiaomi has launched the Redmi Note 4, a successor to the hugely popular and India's favourite smartphone, the Redmi Note 3.


While the Redmi Note 4 was launched on August 25, the Redmi Note 3 has been around for about 6 months now in the India market and has been voted as the country's 'favourite smartphone'.


But having said that, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is loaded with certain new features such as the 10-core MediaTek Helio X20 processor that clocks up to 2.1GHz and USB Type-C for fast data transfers.


 


Otherwise very similar to the Redmi Note 3, let us compare the basic features and see what are the differences or similarities between the two.


DISPLAY: Both devices come with a 5.5-inch IPS Full HD display with a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. However, the Note 3 comes with 403 ppi pixel density which is just a little higher than Note 4's 401 ppi, the difference of which is negligible.


BODY AND WEIGHT: The devices come with almost the same body dimension of 150 x 76 x 8.7 mm, Note 4 being very slightly thinner at 8.35mm. As for weight, the Note 3 weighs 164 gms while the Note 4 weighs 175 gms.


PROCESSOR: Redmi Note 3 features Qualcomm's Snapdragon 650 chipset, which is the first in the world, along with Quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 & Dual-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A72. However, the Redmi Note 4 is powered by a 10-core MediaTek Helio X20 processor that clocks up to 2.1GHz.


 


Xiaomi claims that the processor of the Redmi Note 4 will improve performance by 62 percent and reduce power consumption by 30 percent. But as compared to?


OPERATING SYSTEM: The Note 3 comes with an Android Lollipop 5.1 based MIUI 7 while the the Note 4 comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow based MIUI 8.0.


MEMORY: Both the devices come in two variants – while Redmi Note 3 comes with 16GB and 32GB, the Redmi Note 4 comes with 16GB and 64GB.


CAMERA: Note 3 is equipped with a bigger 16-megapixel camera on the back against Note 4's 13MP. However, both the smartphones have a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.


 


BATTERY: Not much different here as the the Note 3 is equipped with 4050 mAh battery while the Note 4 is backed by a 4,100 mAh battery.


PRICE: In India, Redmi Note 3 is priced at Rs 9,999 for the 16GB variant and Rs 11,999 for the 32GB variant. And while the Redmi Note 4 price in India is not known as, considering its price in China, it should roughly ber Rs 9,000 for the 16GB variant and Rs 12,000 for the 64GB variant, exclusive of tax.


Note: The price of the Redmi Note 4 is converted approximately from its price in China which stands at CNY 899 (roughly Rs 9,000) and CNY 1,199 (roughly Rs 12,000) respectively.


One hardly sees any major differences there except for the processors. But having said that the Redmi Note 4 comes with a USB Type-C for fast data transfers.
