Ahmedabad: Delayed by a week, the Southwest Monsoon arrived in Gujarat on Wednesday, as it covered some parts of the state, a Met official said.
"The Monsoon has arrived over Gujarat today and it has covered parts of the state, starting from south Gujarat to Saurashtra region," Director of Meteorological Centre Jayanta Sarkar said.
Usually, the Monsoon hits the state around June 15 or 16.
"Indeed the Monsoon has reached late this time. We expect good rainfall in Saurashtra (region) as well as southern and northern Gujarat during the next 24 hours. It will take some time for the Monsoon to cover the entire state and reach Kutch region" said Sarkar.
Light to moderate rain was recorded in some parts of Ahmedabad this afternoon.
Parts of Kheda, Amreli, Arvalli, Bharuch, Vadodara and Surat districts also received rainfall during the day.
The "Southwest monsoon has advanced over parts of coastal Saurashtra, south Gujarat and east central Gujarat region. Northern Limit of Monsoon over Gujarat region passes through Veraval, Surat, south of Vadodara and Dahod," a statement by Met department said.
