All 25 students and two faculty members of University of Hyderabad were released from jail here Tuesday night, nearly a week after they were arrested during a police crackdown on the campus.
Hyderabad: All 25 students and two faculty members of University of Hyderabad were released from jail here Tuesday night, nearly a week after they were arrested during a police crackdown on the campus.
A day after they were granted bail by a city court, the students and two teachers walked out of Cherlapally Jail. Their family members, friends and human rights activists welcomed them.
It took entire day for the families and friends of those arrested to complete the bail formalities.
The court, while granting bail, had directed them to arrange a surety of Rs.5,000 each. They were also directed to appear before the police station till the framing of charges in the case.
Police on March 22 had arrested the students and faculty members during the crackdown on protest against the return of Vice Chancellor P. Appa Rao.
Those arrested have been charged with vandalism and attacking police.
Appa Rao, who had gone on leave in January following suicide of Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula, resumed charge last week, sparking protest by a section of students who hold him responsible for what they call the "institutional murder" of Rohith.
