Hyderabad: The YSR Congress Party has decided to boycott the rest of the winter session of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly to protest against the suspension of its member RK Roja for one year.
Leader of Opposition YS Jaganmohan Reddy said since no discussion was being held on the call money racket and Roja was suspended in violation of rules, his party has decided to boycott the session.
After announcing this in the house, he along with the party legislators walked out. In the absence of lone opposition party, the house continued its proceedings.
The Winter Session is scheduled to continue till December 23.
The YSRCP also decided to move a no-trust motion against Speaker Kodela Sivaprasad Rao, charging him with bias in conducting the proceedings.
As soon as the house met for the day, Jagan raised the issue of Roja`s suspension and demanded that it be revoked.
Legislative Affairs Minister Y Ramakrishnudu, however, ruled out revoking the suspension. He said the discussion on call money was already completed.
Actress-turned-politician Roja was suspended for one year on Friday for her unparliamentary language against Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu when the latter was making a statement on call money racket.
No business could be conducted on Saturday as the YSRCP stalled the proceedings to protest suspension.
The house on Monday also witnessed rare bonhomie as Naidu, his cabinet colleagues and the speaker greeted Jagan on his birthday.
