Patna: Justice Iqbal Ahmed Ansari was on Tuesday sworn in as the Chief Justice of Patna High Court by Bihar Governor Ramnath Kovind at a function herein Raj Bhawan.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, his Deputy Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Sushil Kumar Modi, Speaker Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Council Chairman Awadhesh Narain Singh and others were present at the occasion.
Bihar's Advocate General Ram Balak Mahto, Principal Additional Advocate General Lalit Kishore and a host of senior advocates and government lawyers also attended the programme.
Justice Ansari had worked twice as Acting Chief Justice of Patna High Court since December 2014 before being sworn in as its 39th Chief Justice.
Born on October 29, 1954, Justice Ansari did his B.Sc. from Darrang College, Tezpur and completed graduation in law from Tezpur Law College.
After joining Assam Judicial Service in 1991, he had been District & Sessions Judge, at Karimganj, Dibrugarh and Nagaon. He also worked as Registrar General of Gauhati High Court.
Justice Ansari, who was elevated to the bench of Gauhati High Court as Judge on March 4, 2002, joined the Patna High Court on November 11, 2013.
He would retire on October 29, 2016.
