Patna: Ruby Rai, the Bihar Class 12 topper who is now under arrest for allegedly cheating during the examination, has said that she never wanted to top the exam.
"I wanted a second division, I never thought I would be a topper," Rai told investigators, as per NDTV.
Rai is among the 20 people who have been arrested in connection with the case.
The kingpin in the alleged Bihar school board cheating syndicate has so far been Bacha Rai, the owner of a privately-run college. He has already been arrested.
Rai, who had topped in Political Science, had come under the scanner after she told the media that the subject dealt with cooking.
Other toppers from the same college had failed to give reply to simple questions.
This prompted the police to launch an investigation in the alleged cheating case.
Rai was arrested by the police after she miserably failed in the re-test and interview conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) as part of the probe into the case.
Police are also probing whether Rai's father bribed officials to ensure her daughter topped the exam as he had promised to 'take care of her results'.
