New Delhi: Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel has nominated 13 ruling AAP legislators as members of the three municipal corporations in the national capital even as an objection has been raised over repetition of the MLAs for nomination for 2016 in "violation of MCD Act.
Five MLAs each have been nominated to South Delhi and North Delhi Municipal Corporations - SDMC and NDMC - while 3 MLAs were nominated to East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC).
The five nominated members for SDMC are Narayan Dutt Sharma (Badarpur), Parmila Tokas (RK Puram), Mahider Yadav (Vikas Puri), Sahi Ram (Tughlaqabad) and Gulab Singh (Matiala).
However, the Leader of the SDMC House dominated by BJP, Subhash Arya, has written a letter to the Speaker requesting him to revise the list of nominated members, citing Delhi Municipal Corporation Act which is against the repetition of MLAs as nominated members.
Arya said out of the 13 MLAs nominated as members, 10 names were repeated in the list for 2016. All the five nominated members were repeated in case of SDMC.
"The provision is that all the MLAs are nominated in five years and no MLA is repeated," he said.
The five MLAs nominated as members of NDMC are Som Dutt (Sadar Bazar), Rakhi Birla (Mangol Puri), Ritu Raj Govind (Kirari), Ajesh Yadav (Badli) and Pawan Kumar Sharma (Adarsh Nagar). Som Dutt, Rakhi Birla and Rituraj were nominated NDMC members earlier as well.
In EDMC, the nominated members were MLAs Raju Dhingan (Trilok Puri), SK Bagga (Krishna Nagar) and Shri Dutt Sharma (Ghonda).
The MLAs nominated as members of the civic bodies also participate in the House meeting and have voting right.
