New Delhi: Just a day after she was appointed as an advisor for the hugely-popular Aam Aadmi Mohalla Clinics, 26-year-old Soumya Jain, daughter of Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain, quit the top post on Thursday.
Though Soumya was appointed on an honorary basis, her appointment had nonetheless invited criticism from the opposition parties who had accused the AAP government of nepotism.
The criticism was also based on the fact that Soumya was an architect and had no experience in public health.
In her role as an advisor for Mohalla Clinics as well as advisor to the Health Secretary-cum-mission director of the National Health Mission, Soumya was to supervise the network of neighbourhood clinics set up by Delhi's AAP government.
The Mohalla Clinics have already received international recognition for being efficient and for offering free services.
Speaking on the development, Satyendar Jain today said that his daughter is hurt by the criticism and hence decided to quit.
Jain added that as an architect, Soumya was to help the government design Mohalla Clinics.
He reiterated that she was not supposed to receive any salary or other benefits in the honorary position.
The Arvind Kejriwal government has of now set up 100 Mohalla Clinics – it's aim is to establish 1,000 such facilities by March-end next year.
