Faridabad (Haryana): Amid the ongoing controversy over an accident on the Yamuna Expressway in which a doctor was killed and his young nephew was critically injured, an eyewitness on Monday contradicted the statement made by the victim's daughter and said Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani came out of the car immediately and made calls for help.
"Smriti Irani ji`s convoy had rammed into vehicles which were piled up due to the accident. She came out of her car and immediately made calls for help after I explained the situation to her. Within 10 minutes, the ambulance was there," Chopra told ANI here.
Earlier, the daughter of the victim, who died after Irani's cavalcade hit their vehicle, said that she pleaded before her with folded hands but the Union HRD Minister didn't provide them any help.
Irani's convoy was caught in a car pile-up following an accident on the Yamuna Expressway on Saturday. However, Irani, who was on her way to Delhi, escaped unhurt.
Speaking to ANI, the daughter of the deceased doctor, said, "The car of the minister hit us from behind. From another car, Irani came and I pleaded before her with folded hands to help us but she did not provide any help. Then another car came from behind and hit my father again and my father died. If the other car would not have hit my father, he might have been alive today," daughter of the victim told ANI.
In a series of tweets following the accident, the HRD Minister had earlier informed of her well-being and thanked the people for their concern.
"Tried to help the injured who were lying on the road for quiet sometime and ensured they reach a hospital. Pray for their safety," she said.
Irani said that she also ensured the people injured in the accident were taken to a hospital and thanked others for helping out.
According to reports, an FIR has also been registered in connection with this accident.
