Odd-even formula: Delhi govt conducts trial run with 750 private buses

New Delhi: Delhi government on Sunday conducted a trial run of around 750 private buses to be plied during road-rationing experiment that begins from January 1. Transport Minister Gopal Rai extended the registration date for enrolling private buses, which will be plying under 'DTC Paryavaran Bus Sewa' during the 15-day-trial period of the scheme.

"So far, around 2,732 private buses have been registered for plying in Delhi during the odd-even scheme. Out of 2,732 buses, around 1,832 are school buses," DTC spokesperson Dr R S Minhas said. Earlier in the day, the transport minister visited BBM depot in north Delhi and took stock of preparations ahead of the scheme. Minhas said that around 750 buses, which have been given special permits, will be plying on various routes.

On December 4, the Arvind Kejriwal government had announced that 4,000 buses will be "general" buses while 2,000 buses to be taken from schools after their duty hours will have 50 per cent seats reserved for women.

The government recently issued a helpline -- 011-23370209, for applicants who want to register with this new bus service.
