My husband is innocent; sex CD an attempt to malign him, says wife of sacked AAP minister

Despite the CD allegedly showing her husband in a compromising position with another woman, she defended her husband, saying he is innocent.

New Delhi: The wife of sacked AAP minister Sandeep Kumar on Sunday finally broke her silence into the raging controversy over a sex scandal involving her husband and said that her entire family stands by him.

In an exclusive interview with a leading TV channel, Ritu Kumar has said that her husband has been trapped into a political conspiracy.

Despite the CD allegedly showing her husband in a compromising position with another woman, she defended her husband, saying he is innocent and the CD row is only an attempt to malign him.

“I am completely with my husband. Our case will be fought in court and the truth will come out soon,” she said.

However, she refused to comment on the party's decision to sack her husband.

Rape charges against my husband are wrong. Our entire family stands by him.

Asked about the CD that shows her husband in a compromising position, she said, “It's a big conspiracy hatched against the family. All this will come out soon, I am with the truth.”

She said, “I don't want to speak about the party. My concern now is about my husband and the family. More then that I don't have anything to add.”

“My husband is innocent and I will be with him,” she added.

On Saturday, Kumar, who was the former Social Welfare and Women and Child Development Minister, had surrendered before the police.

He was booked after the woman seen in the video had lodged a complaint against him at the Sultanpuri police station, alleging that she had been given a drink laced with drugs by the minister.

She alleged that she had gone to meet him to take his help for a ration card.

After she lost consciousness, she was allegedly raped. The woman also claimed that she did not know a CD had been made.

The police have booked Kumar under IPC section 376 (rape).

Earlier in the day, AAP had suspended Kumar from the primary membership of the party, which came four days after he was sacked from the ministerial post.

However Kumar defended himself, saying he had resigned on his own and that he had been targeted because he was a Dalit.

After reports that the woman being shown in the video has lodged a complaint against Kumar, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal recommended "exemplary" punishment against his former aide.

"If the woman's allegations are correct, this is very serious. Strongest exemplary punishment should be given to Sandeep," Kejriwal tweeted.
