New Delhi: Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who on Wednesday arrived at Delhi's Safdarjung Airport to pay homage to the 10 paramilitary personnel who died in a plane crash on Tuesday, had to face tough questions posed by grieving relatives.
"Sir, why does the soldier's family have to cry every time?" asked the victim's daughter.
"Why sir? Why wasn't it a VIP plane? Why were they given such an old plane? It was an old aircraft. This is not right. Sir, please answer me. No, I want an answer right now," Sub Inspector Ravindra Kumar's daughter Saloni asked as the Home Minister stood silent.
Rajnath Singh paid his condolences and met the family members of the troopers who were killed when the Border Security Force (BSF) plane crashed.
On Tuesday, nine BSF troopers and a Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) co-pilot were killed when their plane flying to Ranchi crashed in Dwarka.
In a bid to deflect the criticism, the BSF today said its crashed Superking aircraft was completely "airworthy" and was flying "very well".
BSF Director General DK Pathak told reporters: "There was no problem in the aircraft and it was completely airworthy. I would like to add that till the time an aircraft is airworthy, there is no problem in flying it".
