New Delhi: To counter the disastrous effects of air pollution, soon electric buses powered by batteries will be seen plying on Delhi roads.
The lithium-ion-powered buses will run on the same battery that is used to propel satellites made by ISRO.
PM Modi is set to gift two electric buses for MPs on December 21 if all goes according to the plan.
ISRO scientists, in collaboration with the ministry have developed these batteries costing Rs 5 lakh. Nitin Gadkari, Road Transport Minister said that they planned to run 15 such buses as a pilot project. The project is in line with Make in India initiative and the vehicles would be commercialised and the patents have been registered.
Gadkari further said that the plan to convert 1.5 lakh buses in the country to electric which at present run on diesel is underway.
