Watch video: Irked Elk charges at Yellowstone National Park visitor!
She was holding up a mobile device, probably to get a photograph from a closer range. However, she had barely taken a few steps toward the animal, when it charged at her.
New Delhi: The wildlife safari's at Yellowstone National Park are known for its strict rules, one of them being, to not get close to the animals.
Apparently, a woman, who had come to visit the national park, seemed to think that this rule did not apply to her.
Jody Tibbitts, a veteran nature guide with the Jackson Hole Wildlife Safaris, was guiding a group of tourists through the national park, when he spotted an Elk at a distance. The safari group had just stopped to capture some photos, when the woman, who was not a part of the safari group, thought it was okay to approach the Elk by foot. Tibbits even called out to her in warning, but she paid no heed.
She was holding up a mobile device, probably to get a photograph from a closer range. However, she had barely taken a few steps toward the animal, when it charged at her.
In her haste to save herself, she fell down. Watching her fall, the Elk backed off and turned away.
Tibbits says that the Elk had just given birth and her calf was probably nearby. Known for their aggressiveness when it comes to protecting their babies, that must be the reason why the Elk charged at the lady.
According to CNN, the 45-year-old, who has lived close to the national park his whole life, said he has noticed a shift in the way people behave with wildlife.
"Prior to having high definition cameras in our pockets, people seemed more courteous to animals," said Tibbitts, who has been a tour guide for 25 years. "It seems like people are being more brave and taking more chances and not thinking about the consequences."
Tibbits' videographer, Manny Perez, managed to capture the footage of the incident. Check it out below!
