Ahmedabad: A dispute over a sewage line took a tragic turn on Sunday when a teenaged girl was set on fire in Gujarat.
As per reports, the 15-year-old girl was set on fire allegedly by her neighbours. The incident happened at Sayla village in Surendranagar district.
The girl is presently undergoing treatment for serious burns at a hospital in Ahmedabad.
The girl`s family has blamed the police for failing to act in time, which could have prevented the incident.
Narrating the turn of events, police said the girl`s neighbours barged into the girl`s home on Sunday and threatened her in connection with an overflowing sewage line.
The neighbours reportedly threatened the girl with her life if her family failed to repair the sewage line.
The girl later informed her mother, who in turn approached the police.
While the police filed a complaint, they did not visit the girl`s house or her neighbours.
Later, when the girl`s mother came back home, the neighbours again barged into the house and set the girl on fire using kerosene.
The girl`s mother also received burn injuries in the incident.
So far, the police have arrested three men in connection with the case.
The police have also refuted allegations of delayed action on their part.
