Chandigarh: In a rare incident, a bride in Haryana made an altruistic demand in front of her husband-to-be and is making headlines for this.

The unique and amazing condition was put by the bride, before her husband, right before the pheras, on the wedding day, in a remote part of Haryana.

The incident occurred on Friday, during the wedding of Poonam and Sandeep Kumar, who is a tutor by profession. Poonam is the daughter of  a teacher from Bilawal village in Bhiwani, while Kumar is from Jhajjar.

The wedding was under way and the couple had exchanged garlands. They were heading towards the mandap to finalise the marriage by taking the seven holy vows of the Hindu marriage, when Poonam surprised the groom and the guests by demanding that Sandeep pledge to educate 11 girls, before they take the pheras. Sandeep, for his part, did not hesitate before agreeing to Poonam’s demand and the wedding guests raised their hands as witnesses to the vow, as per a TOI report.

The exemplary Poonam is a postgraduate from a local government college, who has also worked as a social worker with an associate, Sanjay Ramphal, who is working on various projects.

Notably, her demands are seen as a major boost to the Narendra Modi government’s ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign.
