New Delhi: With his government's failure to curb violence during the recent Jat reservation stir weighing heavily on him, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar broke down on Monday at a meeting of BJP MLAs at Haryana Niwas here.
Tears were seen rolling down Khattar's eyes as state legislators discussed the agitation including violence perpetrated during it in the form of loot, arson, rape etc, the Indian Express reported.
The meeting was attended by 47 BJP MLAs and five Independents, who back the Khattar government in Haryana.
Khattar, who hails from the Punjabi community, said the violence witnessed in Haryana was similar to what the Punjabi community had faced during and after the Partition in 1947.
As per reports, families of Punjabi settlers who had come to India from Pakistan during the Partition were targeted by violent mobs during the stir.
As per the report, not just the Chief Minister but also Finance Minister Abhimanyu cried during the meeting.
An emotional Abhimanyu said he was pained by allegations levelled against him that he was behind all that had happened in Haryana, despite the fact that his own house was burnt down in Rohtak.
