Three militants of Hizbul Mujahideen and a soldier died in a 12-hour overnight encounter in the northern town of Sopore, a police spokesman said.
He said that an Army officer was injured during the gunbattle, which also destroyed the house where the militants were holed up.
In Trich Natnusa village of northern Kupwara district a militant and a soldier died during another overnight gunbattle.
Another militant was shot dead near Kunzer, 35 km north of Srinagar. Police said both the slain militants belonged to the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed militant outfit.
In a fierce gunbattle on Thursday morning, five militants belonging to the pro-Pakistan Lashkar-e-Taiba group were shot dead in Karni, southern Poonch district, officials said. Jaish-e-Mohammad and Lashkar-e-Taiba have been accused by the Centre of carrying out last week's attack on the Parliament Complex.
