Bharti Taneja

Getting silky-smooth face and body is something every woman desires all her life. And, for accomplishing the same all of us swear by going through numerous hair removal procedures each passing month – ranging from threading to waxing to get rid of our unwanted hair.

But in today’s hustle-bustle, where we also want to look utmost presentable all the time we always tend to be in search for something more long lasting. So, these days a forever solution, in the way to remove unwanted hair called Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), using skin-friendly laser treatment is being used as the safest and effective measure of hair removal–sans any side effects!

This revolution is a permanent, painless, convenient and skin-friendly treatment, meant for getting rid of unwanted hair forever. But there are certain dos and don’ts which should be followed while you undergo any such treatment. Ms Bharti Taneja, renowned Cosmetologist & Aesthetician and Founder-Director of ALPS Beauty Clinics, shares how to take care of your skin before, during and after every sitting of IPL.

Before:

It’s good to rush for a permanent hair removal session when your unwanted hair are fully-grown, whereas the minimum hair length should be at least 1 mm for undergoing any IPL treatment as very short or ingrown hair may not be removed properly during it.

Moreover, it is recommended to avoid any form of epilation – be it waxing, plucking or any other measure that removes hair from the roots before starting your IPL treatment. Besides, bleaching should also be kept aside for sometime as bleached hair cannot be treated through IPL. It is rather advisable to wait for the bleach to fade-away and then opt for permanent hair removal.

Till 48 hours:

Immediately once you get over your very first IPL session, it becomes important to start taking some prescribed precautions. Apply a soothing and cooling gel after the hair-removal procedure to ease your sting; although a nice salon would itself do the task for you. Refrain yourself from applying any kind of chemicals; like soaps, washes, lotions on your skin for 48 hours after every sitting of permanent removal.

Also, limit your exposure to sun for at least two days and even then if you have to walk under the sun; do so with a sunscreen with SPF 30 or more. You shall also have to say complete no to body treatments such as scrubbing, exfoliating etc,. during these days.

After 48 hours (till your IPL completes):

After two days, you can indulge in mild scrubbing and exfoliating sessions to remove the dead hair follicles which may be left on your face/body during the IPL sitting. You can now start using your everyday products like; soaps, creams, lotions for these days to cleanse, tone and nourish your skin. Further, you should totally avoid any epilation measure such as, waxing, threading, plucking etc,. now too; to prepare your skin for the next sitting. The above rules should be followed for face as well; therefore do away from using red wax, threading, bleaching or any other chemical treatment on your face after your IPL session. Body bleaching and usage of hair removing creams shall also be curbed in order to attain a forever-beautiful body in the long run. It is recommended to apply a good sunscreen before you step out of your house till your IPL continues to save your skin from any sun damage.
