New Delhi: Malaria is a life-threatening disease, caused by parasites that are transmitted to people through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), although there has been a dramatic decline in the global malaria burden in the last 15 years, about 3.2 billion people - almost half of the world’s population - are at risk of the disease.
Malaria is preventable and curable. And the best way to get rid of infection with malaria is to avoid mosquito bites. WHO recommends recommends protection for all people at risk of malaria with effective forms of malaria vector control such as - insecticide-treated mosquito nets and indoor residual spraying.
The following video depicts how bed nets treated with an insecticide are much more protective than untreated nets in preventing malaria. Watch the video and try getting one if you live in a malaria risk area.
