New Delhi: Sudden appearance of dark black or brown spots on the body can be scary. Sometimes this happens just due to hyperpigmentation or random concentration of melanin deposits at one point, which is not that harmful. Normally, hyperpigmentation patches are symmetrical in shape and size.
But if you spot a patch with irregular shape, size and color, then it is worth consulting a doctor about, as it can be a sign of skin cancer known as Melanoma.
Melanoma is the most common yet serious form of skin cancer characterized by uncontrolled growth of pigment producing tanning cells called melanocytes. The prolonged injury to melanocytes cells results in cancerous cell. Melanoma patches vary in size because of uncontrolled growth and division of cancer cells.
This disease mailnly affects people aged between 45-55 years.
Thankfully this form of skin cancer is curable but early detection is a solution.
