AYUSH Minister rejects `Govt doesn't recruit Muslims as yoga trainers' report, assures probe

New Delhi: AYUSH Minister Sripad Naik, Saturday, rejected the reports which claimed that his department did not recruit Muslims for short-term positions as trainers for World Yoga Day as it was against Government policy.

While addressing the media, Naik termed such reports doing the rounds as false, saying it was just an attempt to defame them. He further assured of a probe into the whole incident.

The Minister's reaction comes after a report published in 'The Huffington Post' said, the AYUSH Ministry, while responding to an RTI query, said that it did not hire Muslims teachers and trainers for the World Yoga Day held in 2015.

AYUSH is short form of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy, and is the Ministry that promotes these branches of traditional medicine.

The RTI application was filed by journalist Pushp Sharma, who sought to know, how many applied for the short-term assignment abroad for the World Yoga Day.

The report say the ministry 711 Muslim yoga trainers had applied, but none of them grabbed the job. The Ministry in its RTI reply said that 3841 Muslim candidates applied for the post of Yoga trainer/teacher but no one was selected.
