Communal violence increased since BJP came to power: Sharad Yadav

JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav on Sunday hit out at BJP over lynching of a man in Dadri in Uttar Pradesh, saying the incidents of communal violence have increased since the party came to power at the Centre.

New Delhi: JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav on Sunday hit out at BJP over lynching of a man in Dadri in Uttar Pradesh, saying the incidents of communal violence have increased since the party came to power at the Centre.

He also alleged that such incidents were happening because the party's ideology was not in consonance with the Constitution.

Not a single day goes, Yadav said, when the "so called Hindu organisations" does not make "disgusting comments" that might lead to communal riots anytime.

"Since the present government came to power, the incidents of communal riots are increasing due to their ideology which is not in consonance with the Constitution that provides a secular society. The lynching of Mohammad Iqlakh in Dadri over rumour that he ate beef was horrible and deplorable," he said in a statement.

"Who were those people who attacked that poor Muslim except Hindu fundamentalists? Can our country progress if such communal violence happens every now and then?" he questioned.

He also attacked the BJP over its promise to give two wheeler (scooty) and laptop to meritorious students in Bihar if voted to power in the upcoming Assembly polls, saying it was a "mockery" of democracy and the saffron party had opposed such freebies when other parties offered it in states.

The grand alliance of RJD-JD(U)-Congress is in a very comfortable and strong position, he said, adding that and other parties would be defeated.

He wondered if the freebies offered by the BJP would fill the empty stomach of the people of the state.
