New Delhi: A delegation of senior Congress leaders met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday and sought an explanation over a proposal to en masse transfer around 400 officers of the Special Protection Group (SPG).
Briefing reporters after the meeting, party leader Anand Sharma said that they have asked Singh about the need to transfer SPG officials to bring in new ones.
“SPGs require rigorous training, so it's a matter of concern as to why such a proposal has come up,” he said,
Sharma said that SPG men come from different services like CRPF, CISF and BSF, adding that there was a need to maintain the “national character” of the force.
Congress leaders Ahmed Patel, Rajeev Shukla, Motilal Vora were also part of the meeting with the Home Minister where the party raised the issue of the security cover provided to Rahul Gandhi.
The Congress' Puducherry unit reported that it had received death threats against Rahul. The Congress vice president is scheduled to address an election rally in the poll-bound union territory tomorrow.
