New Delhi: More details are tumbling out with regard to the arrest of Islamic State suspects in Hyderabad by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
A report said on Friday that lethal explosive material triacetone triperoxide (TATP) was recovered from the basement of a house that belonged to one of the IS men arrested by the NIA.
The Islamic State module was busted by the investigation agency on Wednesday – five suspected IS members were arrested while six others were detained.
The Times of India reported that the explosive material (TATP) recovered from the IS member was also used in the recent Paris and Brussels attacks.
The newspaper said TATP was recovered from the house of Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Amoodi alias Fahad.
The IS module was plotting to target VVIPs and carry out bomb blasts at targets including crowded places, government buildings and police stations.
It would have been the first case of use of TATP in India had the IS men succeeded in their plan.
NIA sources said IS module leader Mohammad Ibrahim Yazdani had already procured large quantities of acetone, hydrogen peroxide and sulphuric acid – main ingredients used to make TATP.
The explosive can be easily made with chemicals available at pharmacies, hardware shops and cosmetics stores. This has led to a surge in its popularity with terror groups like al Qaeda and IS.
Security agencies are worried about the possible use of TATP as it can be used without a commercial metal detonator and hence becomes undetectable in traditional screening methods.
