Five reasons why Pakistan is denying India’s surgical strikes across LoC

New Delhi: Pakistan is a country that has made living in denial an art. Or perhaps delusion is a tactic that they are deliberately cultivating.

First, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif called Burhan Muzzafar Wani a leader not a terrorist at the United Nations. Then, Uri attack, according to Pakistan, was staged managed by Indian forces themselves! (Why the Indian Army would like to kill their own soldiers is a question that provokes more ridicule than begs a serious answer.) And now, the retaliatory surgical attacks carried out by Indian Army cross the Line of Control to eliminate terror launch pads didn’t take place at all, as per Pakistan.

It’s another matter that the Indian Army has given precise details of the operation. They have also said to have video-graphed the surgical strikes carried out on a moonless night.

It’s obviously not that Pakistan can’t see the reality as it is. There is more than what meets the eye.

• The reasons why Pakistan may not want to admit that India’s surgical strikes across LoC were successful is because Pakistan would never ever want to admit the success of the Indian Army. Period.
• Admittance would also mean acceptance of the fact that Pakistan’s Army was caught unawares. And that they could not intervene and stop the Indian Army operation at the right time. Especially, when their Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif had gone public with a nuclear threat with much bravado.
• Pakistan admitting that India destroyed terror launch pads on their side of LoC would also mean accepting the fact that terrorists exist and breed happily on their territory.
• Pakistan would not want to be shamed in front of their own citizens that they have been slapped across the face by the Indian Army. And would never want to admit that India is capable of successfully retaliating to Pakistan sponsored terror.
• Being caught unawares, Pakistan Army may not want to directly respond and escalate this incident into a full blown war. This is because the Indian Army is far superior and has much more wherewithal than the Pakistan Army. The reason why General Zia ul Haq decided to adopt the ‘bleed through a thousand cuts’ policy.

So, the best approach for Pakistan was to rather hoodwink their own public into believing that the India operation never happened in the first place and escape its immediate repercussions.
