New Delhi: After getting mobile phones, saris, jewellery and apparel through the e-commerce route, it is time for Gangajal (water from Ganga river).
“I used to get several requests that with this vast network of post can we get Ganga water?” Communications Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said here on Monday.
“I have directed the Postal Department to utilise e-commerce platform and make arrangement for providing pure Gangajal from Haridwar, Rishikesh to the people. They have assured that they will take pro-active steps to address cultural needs," the minister said while announcing various achievements of the communications ministry in the last two years.
"If the postman can deliver mobile phone, saris, jewellery, apparel then why not Ganga water?" Prasad asked.
In what could be deemed as a big boost to the e-commerce industry, there is an increase in cash on delivery collections by India Post from Rs 500 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 1,300 crore in 2015-16.
